to the decision of conference membership, UConn would be in the ACC, instead of floating around in the Big East, AAC, and then Big East again. Basketball revenue is said to be only around 20% of the overall pie, with football making up the rest. Unless your team is a national brand and highly relevant in football (like USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Texas, or OU), don't expect an invite to the Big 10 or SEC in the new media world. With ESPN and Fox serving as gatekeepers for who gets the invite (since they have to pony up $60-70m per year per team), the team has to bring substantial value and justify the cost. USC and UCLA did and were part of the most recent round of Big 10 media negotiations with their large LA media market and national brands; not even Oregon and Wash. were considered valuable enough and are getting around $30m per year since they were added late.

I could easily see ku getting left out in further consolidation. A good brand, but not elite.
