just because you have one mind bending and cutting edge idea for a movie doesn't mean you have any more. Also, endings are hard. And the more popular something is, the harder it is to nail the ending and make a majority of fans happy.
I've rewatched them all within probably the last year, and if you can just step back and accept that 2 and 3 were never going to live up to the original, and decide to just accept them as the completion of the vision of the creator, they are enjoyable.
