populace do the vetting in choosing the best possible candidates for the job.

I think this exposes a huge problem in our political system. The Democratic machine picks who the candidate is going to be about as consistently as the communist regimes put up a slate of candidates for the voters in the communist countries.

Are the voters really that lazy or that stupid to put up such unqualified candidates? Or are big money donors (or Deep State?) able to manipulate the situation to get only the candidate(s) acceptable to them?
