They'll do everything in lockstep to prop up someone, but as soon as the usefulness has worn out or they can no longer cover for them, they'll unilaterally turn on them to discard the individual who can no longer serve the Democratic Party.
Just like what they did with Andrew Cuomo. Guy was American's governor, then on a dime they flipped and took the guy out.
