Of course I didn't assert that, because it wasn't any part of my argument. Fwiw, I think it is extremely likely that they thought that he would bring in more revenue than they were paying him. But whether or not that is the case is irrelevant to the discussion as to whether paying him that much would cause or even contribute to inflationary pressures in the economy at large.
