i don't love it, but at least it's an opportunity to maybe host some recruits from Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Columbus, Kentucky, and other areas nearby. we recruit those areas and inviting a few top prospects to stand on the sideline on a road game and meet with some coaches and players (and boosters) is a valuable use of a road trip. they can do that at miami, OH. they can't really do that at UMass or Wyoming or san diego state.
aside from the southeast and texas, the midwest is our most important recruiting territory. getting top kids from neighboring states and big 10 territory might be the difference between a bowl season and a playoff season, so maintaining some visibility there is important.
