Trump faced trial in New York because that's where the crime allegedly occurred.
Unlike any normal citizen defendant, Trump was allowed to call out the judge, the prosecutor and the entire system each and every day of his trial. If it seemed like a carnival, that's because it was a Trump trial and Trump is a carnival barker.
In banana republics you don't get to pick your jury. You don't get a jury at all. You also don't get a legitimate appeal. You also would be locked up right away and given a prison sentence not in line with the conviction and regardless of your prior record.
I saw interviews with several people outside of the court who pointed out how overly complicated people were making this whole situation.
They were right in saying that Trump was charged with crimes, that there's a justice system for the crimes to be charged, that Trump should and did receive the trial that our Constitution and the rule of law requires and that he could appeal and if there was impropriety with the trial the conviction could be overturned.
