Many stadiums across the country, no one lives next to them. They are barricaded off by massive parking lots.
In recent years, mixed used developments have been popping up in cities all over the country, where stadiums are next to entertainment, commercial properties, office and even residential.
When done well, they spur new jobs, tax revenue, tourists, and new economic and physical development.
Wrigley Field is often considered the gold standard, when there is no game going on, still tons of life and activity in the area.
The stadium has become the very fabric of the community.
But on the flipside, when they tore down old Comiskey on the south size, they built the White Sox stadium right next to a massive highway and parking. Hotel tax helped build them a new Comiskey Park. But the ballpark does little to benefit the local community on the south side.
The Cardinals are a great example of doing it the right way, building Ballpark Village and office and residential buildings bringing life back into the city.
T-Mobile Center and Power and Light has done wonders for downtown KC.
Royals stadium needs to be moved downtown and let the Chiefs expand their operation at the Truman Sports Complex.
