(Besides money) What would KU gain from taking the SEC?

Kansas is a perennial contender for the national championship in basketball and that is not going to change.

The Big 12 is the highest rated basketball conference virtually every year. The addition of Houston and Arizona only adds to that status.

Kansas football is trending up and will have a brand new stadium that will only seat in the 40s. They can be a contender in the Big 12 (filling the stadium if they win) whereas they would join that growing portion of the SEC which consists of also-rans.

Finally, FWIW, there is absolutely no cultural connection between Free State Kansas and the Deep South (then again Rutgers and UCLA aren’t exactly connected).

Total mismatch. Having said that - money, as always, will dictate the outcome.
