If he were ineligible at the time they would have never given it to him.

It wasn't until after he had already been awarded the trophy that they took it back.

IF they had discovered it prior to giving it to him, then I agree they can decide not to award him the trophy, but to go take it back after they have already said he was the best player in football is pretty dumb to me.
