1) It is a political witch hunt. Under NY law, the state cannot charge his "hush money" as a felony unless there is an underlying felony. There is no underlying felony as Trump was never charged with the crime that NY is using as their basis for their charges. (The underlying charges were investigated by the US Attorney General’s office, and they decided not to bring criminal charges against Trump.)
2) He is unable to campaign as the judge has ordered that Trump must be present for the entire trial.
