Alabama also has a poorer population than Missouri, and no major metros.

Everything you stated is true, but Mizzou has some advantages that Bama/Auburn don't have.

The problem isn't money, it's that Mizzou doesn't have a win-at-all-costs culture.

For example, Auburn wouldn't have hired Dennis Gates, and Mizzou wouldn't have hired Bruce Pearl. The reason has nothing to do with money. One school is serious about winning, and the other is not.
