They hadn’t gotten paid in four years. STL could have pursued the case and gone to trial and likely won. $1B+ was possible. The NFL would have appealed. Another 3+ years goes by and there is zero guarantee how the appeals court or even Supreme Court would rule. Trust me, I wanted Stan and the weasel Dehoff to publicly squirm, but $790M settlement was reasonable given the original strategy to try and recoup costs incurred to save the team which was about $15M.
