In 2018 FSU with Gates and CY as assistants, FSU was 33rd in defensive efficiency
2019 again both Gates and CY was assistants FSU ranked 10th in defensive efficiency
2020 Gates was at CSU, but CY was still at FSU. They ranked 15 in defensive efficiency.

We have seen the system work. Step 1 is getting the length and athleticism. Then we find out if Gates and his staff can properly teach the system. Another aspect they didn’t run the offense Mizzou used last season. So it’s fair to question if they can recruit enough of the type of players that can both play the way Gates wants to offensively and play the way he wants to defensively. If not he will have a choice to make about changing either the offense or the defense.
