Hokie,
First of all, I don't listen to NPR. That's why I said "I think you're confused"
As for this entire thread, I'll explain it to you this way: You have allowed your brain to be atrophied by watching the R vs D circus. The media outlets you consume are not information sources. They are politics-themed entertainment with the goal of getting eyeballs to tune in in order for them to sell ads to buyers, thus giving something called "a profit". "A profit" is when you get money that is more than the money you had to spend in order to gain this extra money.
The media is dependent on dupes to tune in and stay tuned in. Actual information doesn't cause dupes to tune in, because dupes don't have the attention span nor the real interest to learn, they just want a hit of dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that the body uses to reward the organism for engaging in activities that prolong survival. In pre-modern times, this meant eating high-calorie foods and sexual intercourse would cause a surge in dopamine. Unfortunately, in modern times, things like junk food, gambling, video games, drugs, and television cause that same dopamine hit, so it leads people to overindulge on those activities.
You are addicted to this type of media in two different ways. Sometimes, it gives you confirmation bias. The "bad" people you think you don't like are portrayed doing "bad" things. This gives you a dopamine hit probably somewhat akin to a caveman seeing a rival alpha get hit in the head with a rock so therefore he isn't a competitor for resources or to inseminate the cavewomen near you. Sometimes, you watch the "good guys" win. This is great! This means you might have success (you really won't because success is caused by what you do with yourself, but as a socialist, you don't believe that, so seeing your team win means you'll get the goodies from others that will help you and also will keep your team "winning".) I'm not sure if I have a caveman equivalent to this, but maybe it has to do with finding a berry bush your rival cavemen aren't aware of.
What's puzzling, is that you also watch to get a negative reaction. You watch to get enraged. I really don't have an evolutionary explanation for it. But, I guess you have a weird kink and you get a dopamine hit the same way a masochist likes to get his nuts stepped on by a lady in high heels. Doesn't really work to prolong the species, but I guess that's what happens in an environment with ample resources so the whole survival of the fitness thing gets turned on its head.
I know this is a lot of words, and you've demonstrated either an inability or lack of desire to read and learn. If you'd like me to explain this using pictographs, just let me know!
