States of America is the world’s only superpower although there are other strong economies, China and the European Union for example. A politically balkanized United States circa 1850’s for example will likely exerbate already bitter feelings toward each other. Globally and like it or not we live in a global world will only diminish United States influence ‘as a force for good” and wreck already fragile acccess to world markets. The population of the United States relative to the rest of the world is approximately 4 1/2%. Yet it controls or manufactures 1/3 of the world resources. It is 20% of the world’s economy.
When you no longer have a unified country everything suffers. Recruitment to the military, belief in the rule of law that undermine of our social constructs that bind us together.
If these dynamics continue, the United States as a constituonal Republic will only diminish to the point of “We the people” will no longer have a voice in our own affairs.
