I got to college and got only a C in freshman English class, which was required then. I really struggled in it. I couldn't spell and didn't have a clue how to punctuate sentences. Our high school English teacher back at the class 1 rural Missouri school spent our four years of HS teaching us literature of one sort or another. I think we spent one year on American literature, one year on short stories and plays, one year on Shakespeare and one year on classic literature. It was the only time in life I ever read novels. No term papers or creative writing until I got to college and it was a struggle.
