and detectives (plural) were assigned during those TWO HOURS a patrol cop was unavailable that month. That’s 2 hours in a month’s time that a PATROL cop wasn’t assigned so detectives were assigned instead

I know the point you are trying to make and it can be made without exaggeration or misstatements.
