What people fail to realize is how much more rural Missouri's population is than Kansas. Kansas has a huge rural area but there are few people in western Kansas and a larger percent of the population live in cities. What you are witnessing is how backwards rural areas are becoming across the US - Missouri just has a bigger % of their population in those areas.
