According to merriam-webster, definition of "thug" : a violent, brutal person who is often a member of an organized gang

Asserting someone using this word to describe someone who engaged in violent, brutal behavior is racist. The question remains, who is it that ascribed the word "thug" to a particular race? Is it the person using the word "thug", or Lucas?
