Think about it. If Gates fails badly enough here that it's worth an 8-figure fortune to fire him, then no one else is going to be interested in hiring him.

Also, if Gates took another job his effective pay would be *zero* since the salary would be deducted from his buyout money. He would instead choose to take those years off, or just retire a very rich man.
