Cops for instance seem always to shoot to kill. That is horrifying to me. Now, in an episode of Yellowstone wherein a bad guy robber has a gun at the waitress's head creating a seeming if cliched stand-off and Costner's character shoots the bad guy in foot, ending the stand-off. Degrees.
