to Gates' resume prior to being hired by MU...

Holtman's 3 years at Butler had Kenpom rankings of 20, 30, and 25. In other words, he was a proven high-major coach.

Gates' 3 years at Cleveland State had Kenpom rankings of 313, 169, 197. In other words, he was an unproven low-major coach.

Holtmann also had a better first year at Ohio State (Kenpom 16) compared to Gates at MU (Kenpom 57).
