Biden found out he was being set up as a façade, intended by the real powers only to get them through the 2020 election, to be replaced after a short period following the election, citing his age and onset of dementia (with a threat to reveal his corruption used as necessary if he resisted). To foil this plot and prevent his replacement, he selected a VP candidate so inept (even compared to a senile old man) that replacing him would result in an absurdity and disaster the scale of which the powers could not risk.
