There are plenty of opportunities for strict constructionists to interpret the constitution in a way that does not necessarily suit conservatives. I have said here multiple times that the "born in America" law for immigrants protects any human born in the United States, and makes them a citizen.
Arguments to the contrary seem to argue against the logic of a very basic statement in the constitution. Arguments that try to go to the reason for the amendment, pretend to be able to read the minds of people who lived 250 years ago.
It says what it says. Baby Jose is an American citizen.
His parents are not, his brothers and sisters are not, his 24 cousins are not, his aunts uncles, friends and other relatives are not. They are not entitled to stay, but Jose is an American citizen by what the constitution says, not what we wish it says.
