There are millions of people that use drugs that are fine. No different than alcohol


And the stances have not really been softened. The only thing that has been changed is personal possession. It is still illegal to manufacture, distribute, and sell drugs. And in many cases possession is still illegal, but they call it decriminalized because you are only given a ticket instead of arrested
