My wife's co-worker revealed a Neighborhood Wal-Mart at 103rd and Metcalf in Overland Park closed this year. A manager told her it was because of rampant theft. Another store in the same complex closed a few years ago--I think it was last a hardware store--and became a thrift store. Brought a different clientele to the area.
I hadn't been in it for years because I avoid Wal-Mart like the plague, but every time I'd been in the store it was doing a good business. But the shoppers were clearly from a different social-economic status than what the area supports.
