I don't think we can ever expect a politician to be responsible with spending, since that spending is how they get votes. Hard money is the solution, but that's never going to happen either. So, for the foreseeable future the debt will balloon under both parties and the economy will boom and bust.

At least until it collapses, which is inevitable. And then China will be the new empire, while the US goes the way of England and becomes more and more irrelevant on the world stage.
