Why does the NCAA feel obligated to play the participation game with the little schools that could?

Missouri isn't on the level of Bama or Ohio State, but we are used to playing the big boys. Especially since joining the SEC.

I'm not going to buy a plane ticket, rent a car and a hotel, and buy a ticket for a game against... Liberty.
