immoral, then a society becomes chaotic, as we are beginning to see in our own society.
Some people think that it is ok to steal, just don't get caught. Others think it is only right to steal if one is stealing from someone who they perceive as rich.
Others think that it is ok to use force or intimidation to get what they want.
Nazis obviously thought that by exterminating the Jews they were doing something good for humanity. Some people were living lives not worth living and killing them was also doing good.
Hamas thinks they were doing something good and heroic by attacking Israel and killing and kidnapping people.
Israelis think they are doing good by bombing large civilian areas into dust in an effort to exterminate Hamas and the "collateral damage" is unavoidable.
In some areas and at some points in time members of the KKK thought injuring or even killing blacks to intimidate them was a benefit to society.
Bill McClellan a writer for the Post Dispatch years ago often covered court cases. In one column he wrote that most of the people he interviewed in prison felt they hadn't done anything wrong. The case in point was a young man who was in jail for robbing a store and killing the man behind the counter. The young man was insistent that it wasn't his fault. He said that he had pulled his gun, pointed it at the man and told him to "FREEZE!". The guy stupidly moved and he shot him. It was the teller's fault, he didn't follow directions.
In another story some high school kids were queried about what they thought they should do if someone disrespected "dissed" them. They were virtually unanimous in saying that that person needed to be killed. They all agreed and were rather nonchalant about it. That was just the moral code in that part of the hood.
The bottom line is that with no objective moral code, there is no rational way to determine what *is* moral and what is immoral. What is moral for me is not what is moral for you, and differs from area to area and from time to time.
How can a society operate that way? How can they make laws or rules or enforce them if everyone makes up their own reality and their own moral code?
