I feel like analytics are not being utilized properly. I think we are all well aware that analytics say you need to make 3 pt shots and buckets at the rim to win big...at least that is what we are told to believe.
What if the analytics are only reflective of current reality and not projecting what is needed in the future? Are the analytics telling us to shoot 3s and pound the rim because that is what is needed to win big or is it telling us that currently, the good teams do these things well or college basketball in general cant defend these well? Is the mid-range game really worthless or is it the mid-range game is not done well by any good teams currently? Wasn't this kind of the point of moneyball? Find where the current game is lacking and then become the best at that?
I feel like if a team really focused at being the best mid-range shooting team, it would really flip college basketball on its head. Would teams know how to defend it since currently nobody is doing it well? I see some college players that can really hit mid-range shots at a high rate but dont seem to take nearly enough of them.
