Ditch the playoff
Go back to bowl setup around 1990
Play a +1 national championship after the traditional bowls.

It’s all anybody ever wanted. The simplest solution 25 years ago was actually the best solution.

I would bet money that if they had implemented a plus one like everybody wanted in the mid 90s, we would still be following that structure today and we would not have gone through these iterations of BCS to playoff to expanded playoff.
All of which was completely unnecessary to find a champion of the sport.
