The best VB bracket projection out there is the guy on Volleytalk. He typically misses only 1-2 of the at large picks.
Right now, after yesterday, he has Mizzou safely in the field, as a #8 seed (so, in the 29-32 range overall). In fact that’s exactly where he had us at the start of the week, before the road loss to Georgia. So, he’s had us safely in the field, not on the bubble, ever since our great homestand where we beat Auburn, TAMU and Georgia. Look for our RPI rank to drop from 32 down to at least the high 30s, but that won’t matter.
The other #8 seeds who are at large teams are TAMU and Utah St according to his bracket. Don’t know about Utah St but I’d think we’d get in before TAMU, who we went 2-0 against.
Then there are 9 more unseeded at large teams, including Minnesota, TCU, Georgia, Baylor, UCSB, Kansas St, Miami, Texas St and South Alabama. Those last 4 are projected as the last 4 teams in. So, he has Mizzou in the field ahead of all 9 of them.
His first 4 teams out are: UCLA, Duke, NC St and St Johns.
His next 4 teams out are: Drake, LMU, Loyola Chicago and SFA
So if there is any sweating to do today at 5pm CST, it’s if anyone of those 8 teams above make the field.
Of course as an 8 seed, if that happens, we would draw a tough match in the first round and a #1 seed in the second round. His bracket has us playing Kansas St, and then Nebraska in the Lincoln regional. We should know early today, as Nebraska will almost certainly be the #1 overall seed, and their bracket will be out first.
Just making the tournament in her first year is an amazing result for Dawn Sullivan, after the dumpster fire she inherited with two straight 2-16 SEC finishes. Only lose Gedikoglu and Forbes from this team, have a pretty good recruiting class coming in, and if she works the portal well it’s likely we could be challenging for the top 4 in the SEC next year. This year we were just one win out of 4th place, which no one could have predicted.
FYI, here are his SEC seeding projections today:
2 Kentucky
3 Arkansas
4 Tennessee
5 Florida
6 Auburn
8 Missouri
8 TAMU
Georgia at large
