the "Southern Conference"...along with familiar SEC names Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Vandy, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State...plus Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech, VMI, Washington & Lee, Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Sewanee.
That's a 21 team super conference if you're scoring at home. Good grief.
Mizzou was in the Missouri Valley Conference at that point along with ku, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa State, Grinnell, and WashU.
We complain about realignment as if it were some new found chaotic evil. It ain't.
