old is a whopping $87,000. If they live to be 75 they can spend $8700 per year plus whatever probably measly amount they get from their social security (which they also have to pay taxes on - or 85% of). Since SS caps around $42,000 (most won't make that), that's an income of about $50,000 per year at best which they will spend much on medical because they probably won't be able to afford a supplement to Medicare and Medicare only pays 75%.
And all my life, I was told I wouldn't see a dime from social security. Now I'm approaching retirement age and social security is still around.
