Following a deadball the ball was inbounding to the opposing team, who became confused which direction their basket was after receiving the ball in the backcourt and immediately attempted what they thought was a breakaway layup. As fans started yelling to get the players attention, a girl on our team decided they must be freaking out at her unimpeded breakaway and hustled back in time to hammer the girl and prevent her layout on the wrong basket.

The opposing coaches argued that since she was 'in the act of shooting' she should be awarded two free throws on the correct basket and the officials agreed. So she ended up making two free throws as the beneficiary of being so confused she tried to score on the wrong basket.

Is it 'in the act of shooting' if you are shooting at the wrong basket when fouled?
