I think it was.
Yes, odds are slim you make it but you might (which would allow you time to still try for the TD) and if you don't you still have the same 3 and out odds for your defense as if you punt.
May have to go a little further, but you have the leg of the thicker kicker son getting to the 40 is all you had to do (he had the wind at his back)
