of course issues to deal with, but some of the worries about the dangers of hydrogen are overblown, so to speak. Gasoline spillage pools all around the vehicles and on the highway making for a very volatile situation indeed.
Hydrogen, on the other hand is lighter than air and quickly rises, away from the accident scene, reducing the risk of a major fire significantly.
Also, hydrogen is far more energy dense and can be used for airplanes, ships, rockets and so on. Batteries just won't work for those applications.
The nuclear breakthrough had two positive components. It made the production of "red hydrogen" possible. It is a way to make hydrogen with zero CO2 byproducts, unlike the current "green hydrogen" production, which produces more than just using fossil fuels directly.
It also makes the generation of nuclear power more efficient and much safer. If power is lost, the reactor will not melt down, even without any human intervention.
