Cook isn’t the problem. Receivers played well.
O line is inconsistent, but improved. Running game goes as the line goes.
IMO, the problems with the offense are with the play-calling. There’s no continuity from one play to the next. Take the first series: first play was a run for 8 yards. 2nd play was a run for 9 yards. Then three pass plays and we are punting. The play action pass for Burden was a good call and he almost came down with it, but we didn’t need that home run. It should have been all run plays until MTSU can prove they can stop it.
MTSU then made adjustments to stop our run game, but we kept trying it over and over. I don’t think we rushed for 100 yards for the game. With the exception of the wheel route TD (that was blown coverage by MTSU) we did not appear to have any quick-hitting pass plays to punish MTSU for blitzing. Not even a simple dump pass to tight end.
I’m not saying we should have run more or passed more, but there needed to be more coherence from one play to the next. I can’t tell what we are trying to do with our offense. We seem random, unaggressive, boring. MTSU built a couple good drives against us, picking up first downs. They have a good, 18 year coach. I hope our coach and young OC can learn something from watching the film.
