some changes significant enough to change outcomes of a game or 2, or even three, perhaps.
Improvement in the o line alone could have significant ramifications. A little more time could easily equate to a couple of additional passes completed, and/or a sack that doesn't happen. A little additional time might also equate to a pass further downfield rather than to a safety outlet pass behind the line of scrimmage on occasion.
A little better blocking could let a running back, or quarterback, break free rather than get stopped at or near or behind the line. A yard or two here and there could transform a 3 and out to a sustained drive. A sustained drive rather than a 3 and out would obviously help the defense with a bit of a rest and better field position... unless that sustained drive resulted in points, of course.
You also seem to be assuming that Cook will not have improved to any significant degree from last year, but that assumption seems rather counterintuitive. We know that he had an injured throwing arm for most of last year, and yet still improved a bit over the course of the year. It is pretty common for quarterbacks to improve after a year of experience. Cook seems to already have improved some in his decision making. The difference on even just one play could mean the difference between lost yardage and a first down, or even a turnover vs a touchdown.
There were a couple of games last year where a single play could have been the difference between a loss and a win. A relatively small improvement could have been the difference between a 6-6 and 8-4 regular season.
I won't make any predictions, but I think it's pretty dangerous to be projecting that Cook and the offense will be a repeat of last year.
Virtually no one would have predicted the HUGE improvement our defense made last year over the year prior. I'm not predicting a similar jump for the offense this year, but predicting that the offense will make no significant improvement seems to be a rather wild shot in the dark to me.
