you want putin to take over Ukraine and have to live the same way. Total fools.

The author of this story, Anna Politkovskaya, was shot dead in the elevator of her house in the center of Moscow on October 7, 2006. Nearby they found a Makarov pistol with a silencer and four shell casings. It was a contract killing: 4 shots were fired, including a "control" shot to the head.

Politkovskaya was a fervent critic of Vladimir Putin. She became famous for her reports during the Chechen War.

Was life in the USSR good?

I was born in the USSR.
This is what life in the USSR was like.

”The USSR is not soda machines, but the Gulag and 4 million denunciations.

The USSR is where the senile in power and poverty are the norm.

The USSR is hypocrisy. With ostentatious anti-Westernism, a trip abroad is a reward, and a thing from abroad is an unprecedented success.

The USSR is the unification in everything. In clothes, in food, in songs, in thoughts.

The USSR is a deficit of goods and the absence of any progress.

The USSR is communal apartments, where there is one kitchen and one corridor for everyone. Where the word "neighbor" takes on a special meaning.

The USSR is a ban on traveling abroad. It is imprisonment for foreign exchange transactions, it is a ban on any political activity outside the framework of the Communist Party.

The USSR is a ban on private enterprise. The ban on private property, as such. A person does not and should not have anything personal, his own.

A person belongs to the public, not to himself.

The USSR is all-pervading censorship and no freedom of opinion and dissemination of information.

The USSR is constant lies, dullness and downtroddenness.

The USSR is pioneer assemblies, Komsomol meetings, public censure and condemnation. Humiliation in front of everyone, eliminating and suppressing any individuality.

The USSR is ubiquitous nepotism and extortion.

The USSR is the imposition of militarism and imperial consciousness from the early childhood.

The USSR is forced equality.

The USSR is when the state pretends to pay us for work, and we pretend to work.

The USSR is a humiliating expectation of handouts from the state.

The USSR is lack of personal hygiene goods.

The USSR is the squalor of life.

The USSR is a sense of the meaninglessness and absurdity of what is happening.

The USSR is disrespect for the individual. At school, at college, at work - everyone officially trespasses a person's personal space. And this is considered to be normal.

The USSR is propaganda from every outlet, queues and empty shelves.

The USSR is a constant expectation and fear of war.

The USSR is a characteristic in the references, "puts personal interests above public ones."

The USSR is a suspicion towards anyone who stands out.

The USSR is the inability to read, watch and listen to what you want.

The USSR is a queue for sausages, where people are fainting.

The USSR is an attitude towards a person as something expendable.

The USSR is the “nationality” labeling.

The USSR is the hopelessness of the future, an imitation of living as such. It’s merely existing.

The USSR is hatred of intelligence and love for the machine.

The USSR is corrosive anti-Semitism pushed from above, reaching the last communal kitchen.

The USSR is a humiliating lack of choice in everything.

The USSR is sycophancy and awe of the boss. Bowing to power.

The USSR is when the end justifies the means.

The USSR is an ideology of hatred, envy and meanness.

The USSR is the opposite of freedom as such. No freedom of movement, freedom of conscience, freedom of opinion, freedom of thought. And constant declarations, meetings, parades, fiery speeches, rallies, plans, norms, posters, boards of honor, boards of shame - huge, plywood screens covering the true state of affairs.

The USSR is a lie and more lies. Violent perversion of human nature. The substitution of all human values.

The USSR is the longest unfinished misanthropic regime in history.

And here we are again, behind the familiar Iron Curtain with barbed wire, where the dragon can excitedly continue a briefly interrupted romance with his food. On the rails of a perfidious war, covered in strangers’ blood up to our throats, with masochistic nostalgia we rolled back to the guillotine, where our executioners were already waiting.

History, like a chronic illness, is prone to relapse. And there is only one radical medicine - timely chemotherapy of cells that bring death. This did not happen here, we dragged ourselves from the USSR to the “new Russia” with all the Soviet bedbugs.”
