family experienced that first hand when our youngest son attended Indiana University. For all four years, he participated in IU's annual bike race, the "Little 500." The "Little 500" was featured in the 1979 sleeper hit movie "Breaking Away." That race is conducted on a cinder track in IU's old soccer stadium. During his first year of that race, his bike was clipped by a rival cyclist and he fell on that cinder track, HARD, going about 20 mph. The cinders on that track acted like a giant, filthy cheese grater and he had a massive abrasion from his right hip to his right ankle. Plus, we picked out cinders embedded in his leg for an hour. Thankfully, cinder tracks are now pretty rare.
