change opinions on very serious issues. But that didn't and doesn't happen from not talking to other people. If you don't talk to other people (including those who might be hostile to you) then you are bound to become more entrenched in your echo chamber.
Dr. Hotez has a golden opportunity to talk to a huge audience of people about an issue that he claims to be an expert in. If he doesn't take that opportunity, he's either a coward or a fraud. He can make whatever excuses he wants to suggest otherwise.
