My first Macbook at my current job had the battery swell in less than 2 years. I had it sitting on the kitchen table one afternoon, and it was rocking back and forth when I typed. I thought something was on the table underneath it, but when I looked more closely I realized that the bottom was swelling to the point of contacting the table. Then I also noticed that some of the keys on the keyboard were starting to be deformed. Glad it didn't set the house on fire.
