Barring a Laurie-esque donation to baseball, MU will always be lower tier in SEC. Somebody has to be and by Gawd that’s Mizzou’s role in baseball.
I don’t think the player amenities are bad. They apparently could spend more on travel but they are probably taking the financial hit to square up spending as it relates to Title 9 compliance since I think softball travels in more luxury and football and MBB get all the men’s athletic perks (as they should). They have an indoor practice field, essentially, right next door with football moving out. They have the batting cages in the facility in left field.
For the most part, it seems like the spending is more for aesthetics to look a lil more in line with SEC stadiums and for the 1 to 2 thousand fans MU baseball can attract in COMO/Jeff City. Maybe 3 if they get consistently good. Increased seating isn’t necessary but they could do something down right field line to get away from bleachers. Turf the whole field. It just looks D2-ish to not. And as I’ve said several times and will probably say some more, look at Plainsman Park at Auburn and build up outfield walls to block views of nothing good looking. New, big ass score/video board could be incorporated. I don’t know if a louvered canopy over seating is worth it or not. Louvered so you can open and close as weather dictates.
If MU can’t even demo Hearnes, they aren’t getting a new stadium without some big ass donation that has to be used for baseball. So raise $5 to $10 million and do what you can.
