fighting the power. As we see all the time in Congress and state legislatures across the country it is easy to be principled when you have no real power. But once you gain that power those principles are hard to keep if it means giving up your control.
The classic liberalism grew up with was always fighting "the man". Today liberals are "the man" pop culture, American education and government institutions have all been under liberal control for decades now. The last bastion of conservatism was corporate America but it is quickly turning woke as well.
Modern-day liberalism is fighting to hold and expand its power. Conservatives are now the ones fighting the entrenched power.
