We had at a minimum 2500 people in harm's way and no way to possibly defend them if we broke that agreement.

75-100000 Taliban fighters and tag-alongs were ready to wipe them out if we broke that agreement.

There would still be hostages there if we had done anything. That evacuation wasn't pretty, but it would have been much much worse if we hadn't done it.
