Bates averaged 6 ppg and 20 min as a backup guard for 4 seed Indiana.
NCAA tournament games:
Vs Kent State 0-6 FG 0-2 3 PT total of 0 points in 21 minutes. 2 rebounds 1 steal.
Vs Miami 0-7 FG 0-4 3 PT total of 0 points in 20 minutes. 4 rebounds 1 steal.
Last season 1.1 assists .7 turnovers
Perhaps new coaching staff and system will help him improve.
____
Tonje 2nd leading scorer and 5th year senior on a poor Colorado St team that went 15-18 overall and 6-12 in the Mountain West Conference.
Excellent offensive player. Defensively as a senior 1.3 steals 1.8 turnovers 4 rebounds.
Upside down on Gates' key to victory which is assist to turnover ratio. If he can improve on defense he will be the best guard on the roster as it stands at this point.
____
How they fit in Gates' system - no idea and that's the key to success. 3 pt% for both is higher than everybody on this year's team except Brown, Hodge and Honor which is probably why Gates wanted them.
Tonje has the potential to be an A if he acclimates and learns to play defense.
Bates C with lots of potential to improve with new system and coaching.
