Well my 52nd anniversary of being drafted

Had to report to Mart Bldg in St Louis. Had us count off by 3s and 2s were Marines. I was a 1 and didn’t trade
I had turned down flying F-4s in the AF because a 6 year 4 month commitment.
Sent to Ft Leonard Wood. After a week of input including testing etc assigned to C-2-2. First day there they took 3 of us who had graduated from college to the stockade, locked us up and said if we screwed up this is what we would get
6th week of Basic the Navy offered me OCS At Newport. Turned them down. Was told in 7th week I was going to Ft Polk La to be an 11 bravo—infantry. In the 8th week got assigned to crypto school. Sending messages both written and voice in code. Personal Computers before they existed in real life They sent 10 college grad draftees to Ft Monmouth NJ to see if it was the course or the students as 90% were failing We all passed. Grads from Wisc, Purdue, VaTech, Colo, Rutgers…and me from Mizzou
Long story short VN was winding down and ended up in the middle of nowhere SV observing B-52s bombing raids on the NVA as they were all over SVN. We bombed them to the Paris Peace table. We sent encrypted messages to ships off shore who would relay to the Pentagon about the results. Less than 25,000 US soldiers in country
On last thing. When I was back at Mizzou and having been admitted to law school the profs most of which had been in WW2 had a dinner with the veterans in law school. The women's law caucus complained as they had been denied the right to be drafted and hadn't been in the military.Seriously. The law school cancelled the dinner
