Why does someone thanking him get your hackles up?

How does someone thanking him, impact you?

When someone says "Thank you for your service" to me, I simply reply "It was my honor to serve"

It sounds schmaltzy, but I DID consider it an honor to lead soldiers.

Please explain why this message is being reported.
